Eva Muraya
Eva Muraya is the Founder and CEO of BSD Group, a regional award-winning brand strategy and communications company. She is a serial entrepreneur with over 20 years’ industry experience in brand communications, having managed the brand development, refresh, and launch programs for local, regional and global companies.
Her expertise is in Brand Repositioning & Alignment, Brand Sustainability, Capital Markets Communications, Crisis Communications, Internal Brand Engagement, Customer Centricity, Media Relations Strategy, Stakeholder Management, Corporate and Product PR and Entrepreneurship. She has been recognized both nationally and internationally for her business innovation and leadership through various awards and prestigious appointments.
She is currently Chair of the Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA) Gender and Youth Sector Board, and a co-founder and former Chairperson of the Kenya Association of Women Business Owners (KAWBO). Eva also chairs the Zawadi Africa Education Fund, an organization that provides mentorship, leadership development, and scholarship opportunities to academically gifted girls from disadvantaged backgrounds in select African countries to pursue higher education in the United States, Canada and leading African universities.
Eva is an alumnus of the Columbia Business School’s Entrepreneurship Excellence Centre and Harvard Business School SEPA Program. She holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Journalism and Marketing from the United States International University (USIU) in Nairobi, a Diploma in Advanced Business Management from the IESE (University of Navarra) and Strathmore Business Schools. She is also a graduate of the global Stanford SEED Entrepreneurship Program.
Head of Finance
Esther Chege
Esther Chege has extensive experience in finance and accounting field working in various capacities. Her expertise spans across financial management, audit, investment and corporate finance. She is responsible for financial and risk management, financial reporting and strategic planning at BSD Group.
Previously, she worked for IwayAfrica Group, an ICT based company with market presence in 44 countries in Africa. During this period, Esther was instrumental in the design and implementation of the group billing system, perfecting corporate governances and compliance for Kenya and Tanzania operation and played a pivotal role in Group mergers and acquisition transactions.
She holds a Master in Science (Finance & Investment) from University of Nairobi, B. Com (Finance) and CPA (K).
She is a registered member of ICPAK.
Project Coordinator
Shantale Mureithi
Shantale is a strategic communicator with four years’ experience in brand strategy development, creative strategy development and culture change management. Clients know her as the promise keeper having managed high profile accounts in private and public sectors. As a Project Coordinator, Shantale ensures all project milestones have been delivered on time and on budget.
In her time at BSD, she has gained the ability to adapt to change positively and provide strategic contribution in brainstorms, status and client meetings. She is a driven leader committed to embedding value-based business approach that stays focused on a solution – based culture whilst achieving social impact.
Shantale has a Bachelor’s Degree (Cum Laude) in Communication from Daystar. She is a wife, mother and a community leader in her local Church. In her free time, she enjoys nature walks and attending live concerts.
Digital Strategist
Betty Mitei
Betty Mitei is the Digital Strategist at BSD Group.
Betty is an experienced Digital Strategy and Public Relations Executive with a demonstrated history of working in the marketing and advertising industry. She is skilled in Campaign Strategies, Photography, Event Planning, News Writing, and Trauma Therapy.
Betty is a strong media and communication professional with a Bachelor of Arts – BA focused in Public Relations/Image Management from Daystar University.
She has previously worked in different capacities at Absa Group, Exclamation Marketing Limited, Scarlet Digital and Royal Media Services Limited.
Business Support
Daniel Ndegwa
Dan comes on board with extensive experience in leading community-based projects. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations and expertise in peacebuilding initiatives.
At BSD, Dan works as Business Support Executive. His work includes developing and managing a stakeholder database, conducting industry and sectoral research, providing support in internal event planning, as well as supporting the internal digital marketing team.
Dan is a charming, self-motivated individual who strives to learn new things every day. During his free time, he enjoys reading books, watching documentaries and taking nature walks. He is currently pursuing an online diploma course on Project Management.

Lead, Research and Data Analytics
Caesar Handa
Caesar leads Research and Data Analytics at BSD Group. Caesar brings on board a wide experience in the development and implementation of communications and research programs. His experience in communications range from development of communication and education (IEC) materials for several programs in Kenya to development of communication strategies and plans for organizations.
Caesar holds a bachelor’s degree in political science and anthropology, and post-graduate degree in communications from University of Nairobi and University of Missouri, Columbia, USA.
Caesar is also a Hubert Humphrey Alumni, an award bestowed on him in recognition of his pioneering work in communications and research in the region.
He is founder of Strategic Africa, a leading research and communications consultancy in Africa with presence in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda and Nigeria. The company, founded in 1997 has been at the forefront of pioneering work in research and communications including opinion polling and was one of the seven organizations that founded the Basic Rights Campaign platform that spearheaded the inclusion of the bill of rights in the Kenya Constitution 2010.

Julian Rowa
Julian Rowa is Lead, Enterprise Development at BSD Group. He is a Doctoral Candidate with University of Liverpool; a scholar practitioner trained in bridging the gap between theory and practice, primarily the academia and the world of work.
A strategy expert and conversational intellectual, Mr Rowa delights in focussing on and addressing the most simple yet difficult questions that help define ones “situational reality.” A former Banker with many years of experience who has worked extensively across functions and boarders, Mr Rowa has a deep appreciation of International Development and has an affinity for people, processes and products geared towards organisational growth and development.
Julian Rowa is the CEO and Co-Founder of Shajuls Consulting Ltd, an entity designed to help solve work place based problems. In his free time, he delights in mixing with family, his loving wife, two daughters and son.

Caroline Karangi
Caroline Karangi is Lead, Organizational Performance Specialist at BSD Group. A consultant with over 15 years of practical work experience gathered in the areas of Leadership, Strategy, organizational development and Human Resource strategy, she has built progressive experience in Talent Management and Performance improvement programs with an emphasis on excellence models.
Caroline’s key competencies include facilitating organizational change initiatives, Strategy development and deployment, Leadership and Management Development programs, Executive placements among other consulting assignments.
Among her most notable achievements is establishing a training institution for Kenya Transport association (KTA) under the auspices of a USAID funded project. She has also worked as Senior VP Human Resource and Administration at the Frontier Services Group (FSG)- a Multinational Logistics Company, where she restructured the Phoenix Aviation, one of the subsidiaries of the company.
Caroline is a senior facilitator in leadership and management development as well as business skills for SME’s. She has developed curriculum and trained many companies in management and is always looking for ways of improving business practice and helping business owners reach their utmost potential.

Dr. Anthony Mwaniki Mburu
Anthony is the Lead, Culture and Change Management at BSD Group. He is a resourceful and skilled Organisation Development (OD) and Transformation Practitioner with over 15 years’ experience supporting various organisations through organisational transformation and change.
He has led and participated in major transformation and change assignments in various organisations; corporates, INGOs and government agencies including: World Vision Kenya, World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF-Kenya), Britam Group, former Chase Bank LTD now SBM Bank, former General Motors now Isuzu East Africa, Plan International, CARE International, Micro Enterprise Support Trust (MESPT), County Pension Fund (CPF), and the treasury department in the Ministry of Finance the Government of Kenya, among others.
His OD work has featured roles such as organisational diagnosis/assessments; design and implementation of various organisational improvement interventions including: process re-engineering, organisation re-design, ERP systems implementation support, culture transformation, leadership development, and team development among, others; project management for change; change management and communication support; transformation and change project and programme monitoring for results and benefits realisation; workshops and training planning and facilitation; transformation and change project and programme reporting; among other related roles.
Anthony holds a Doctorate in Organisation Development and Transformation from Cebu Doctors’ University Mandaue City in the Philippines, a Master of Arts degree in Leadership specialising in Business and Entrepreneurship from PAC University Nairobi Kenya, and a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Accounting and Marketing from Daystar University Nairobi. Benard Kibaru
Bernard Kibaru is Lead, Distributions and Value Chains at BSD Group. Benard is a seasoned consulting advisor and facilitator to entrepreneurs and businesses, helping them achieve their mission and revenue targets and find their path for sustainable growth.
As a consultant, Bernard has the unique privilege of working with people who have great business ideas that are helping power national economies and social progress in East Africa. His work focuses on turning these business ideas into successful and sustainable businesses through strategy formulation and implementation.
Bernard has a track record of success in driving revenue growth through Go-to-market strategies with particular emphasis on Customer Insights, Channel Management and Distribution. He has a passion for using execution and leadership principles to help build foundations for growth and turn strategy into operating plans that drive business growth. Bernard is a University of Nairobi graduate with extensive experience in Leadership, Strategy, Supply chain management, Sales & Marketing and Business Mentoring gained across various industries including Retail, FMCG, Energy and Agribusiness in East Africa. Bernard has an EMBA in Strategy, Leadership and International Business from Copenhagen Business School and a certificate in Business Mentoring. Bernard also has a passion for giving back to the society and is the Chairman of a local secondary school board where his leadership is giving disadvantaged children access to college education. Dr. Lucy Kiruthu
Dr. Lucy Kiruthu is Lead, Customer Service Experience at BSD Group. Lucy is a management practitioner on a mission to inspire positive change in business and society.
Lucy is proficient in general management, strategic management and leading change, and is passionate about training and mentoring others, customer experience, leadership, and enterprise development. Her experience cuts across a variety of industries including financial services, retail, hospitality, FMCG, airline services and public service among others. Lucy has worked with over 50 organizations including large corporates, medium and small-sized enterprises in East Africa and the USA.
Lucy holds a Doctorate in Business Administration – Strategic Management from USIU-Africa (2017) where she researched on “Organizational Capabilities and Strategy Execution and a Masters Degree in Business Administration (MBA) – Strategic Management from Park University – MO-USA (2004). She has a Bachelor of Science degree from Egerton university- Kenya. Besides, she has extensively trained on leadership, communications, service excellence and quality management systems including ISO 9001 and Kaizen and attended an executive leadership program at Columbia Business School- NY (2016). Lucy was in the panel of experts that reviewed Kenya’s Consumer Protection Bill before it became law in 2014.
On the social front, Lucy serves as a co-founder and chair of her former primary school foundation, is a member of TAG, a community-based organization that runs TAG Dairy and is a volunteer consultant with the Stanford Seed Program.

Irene Karani
Irene is the Lead, Environment and Climate Change at BSD Group. Irene brings on board over 25 years of relevant international experience as a climate change, green growth, natural resource management, monitoring and evaluation professional in Africa.
She currently oversees the management of 7 country offices in Africa namely, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Malawi, Mozambique and Zambia in the development consulting field. In addition to my leadership and management role, Irene has implemented over 100 consulting assignments covering over 13 countries in Africa for the last 17 years. She is also the author of several publications in climate change, monitoring and evaluation.

Mungai Thiru is the Lead, Agricultural Management at BSD Group.
Mungai is Managing Consultant at Chase Berkley Kenya. He has vast experience and professional skill gained from diverse organizations in the fields of management, strategy, marketing and administration.
Mungai’s core skills span across management of enterprise, people and other resources in areas of corporate and business strategy, performance management systems, process reengineering, marketing, agribusiness, engineering, development and management of supply chain and sales distribution channels.
Lead, Public Policy and Government Relations
Rachael Muthoga
Rachel leads Public Policy and Government Relations at BSD Group. She is a private consultant providing support to businesses and business member organizations to build strategies and execute policy advocacy affecting either individual business or sectors. She is also widely experienced in organizational growth and corporate governance, resource mobilization and partnership engagements and she provides advisory services to different organisations in these areas.
She was previously the Deputy Chief Executive Officer at the Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA). In this role, she worked with different sectors to develop advocacy strategies and execute them through the public private dialogue platforms.
She is the immediate former Executive Director at Moving the Goalposts, and innovative women’s leadership development organization that uses football as a platform to engage girls on issues relating to their leadership, their reproductive health and economic empowerment.
Rachel is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya. She studied Law at the University of Nairobi, and took her Masters studies in International Legal Studies with a focus on Human Rights in Washington DC at Georgetown University. She undertook her studies at Georgetown University as an awardee of the Leadership and Advocacy for Women in Africa (LAWA) Award. She was admitted as an advocate of the High Court of Kenya in May 2006.
Rachel is widely travelled and a prolific speaker using her legal background and the various positions she has held to move the agenda of women’s right to access to human rights and freedom from physical and mental harm. She has spoken on Capitol Hill, in various European and African women’s rights forums and has had various televisions and radio appearances in the local media.

Angela Gachui
Angela Gachui is the Lead, Diversity and Inclusion at BSD Group.
Angel holds a Masters of Public Administration (MPA) with a focus on International Policy and Management, from New York University – Wagner School of Public Service, having been awarded the prestigious African Women in Public Service Fellowship.
Angela is the Founder/ Principal at Triple Bottom Line Associates, a boutique firm providing coaching, talent strategy and diversity, equity & inclusion (DEI) advisory services to organizations, leaders and individuals across the African Continent.
Angela’s advisory work in the space of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI), organizational culture, is geared towards supporting leadership in understanding the opportunities, barriers and approaches to build inclusive organizations through the lens of their overall strategy – looking beyond the HR/Talent Management function and into policies, practices and initiatives that affect customers, suppliers and other stakeholders.
Angela is a Certified Professional Coach and a Genos Emotional Intelligence Certified Practitioner. She is a Board Member of InAble – an NGO that exists to empower the blind and visually impaired students in Africa through assistive computer technology; is a New Faces New Voices Champion– a network established by the Graca Machel Trust to expand the representation and participation of women in various corporate spaces; and is a volunteer with the Business Agile Institute (BAI), supporting their research on the intersection of D&I and Agile.

Arch. Paul Mutahi Wariithi
Arch. Paul Mutahi Wariithi is the Lead, Brand-Led Interior and Space Design at BSD Group.
He is an experienced architect with a demonstrated history of working in the building & planning industry. Paul Mutahi is skilled in Contract Management, Submittals, Comprehensive Planning, and Sustainable Design. He is a strong entrepreneurship professional with excellent leadership skills.
Having worked for over Twenty two years in architectural consultancy services, Paul Mutahi has a vast experience in tackling various projects. He has been involved in project inception, preliminary design, working drawings, tender documentation and evaluation and supervision of construction to completion. Competence has been achieved in carrying out various types of projects. This involves feasibility studies in initial stages to determine and evaluate parameters coming into play during the building process. This advises the clients about the viability of the scheme and the environmental forces to be addressed to lead to a design approach sensitive to the social/economical and technical basis of the environment.
Paul Mutahi holds a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from University of Nairobi and an ongoing Master’s Degree in Construction Management at University of Nairobi. He is a registered Architect by the Board of Registration of Architects and Quantity Surveyors and a member of the Architectural Association of Kenya. Paul Mutahi is a Chief Architect at U Design Architects & Interior Designers Limited. It is a design-led company whose focus is in contemporary design across a wide range of sectors and building types. He undertakes architectural designs and co-ordinates all other engineering and services designs after evaluation and works closely with quantity surveyors arriving at provisional budgets and cash flow projections during implementation of a construction project.
Lead, Women Markets Financial Inclusion
Makena Mwiti
With over 15 years’ experience in gender, international development and commercial banking, Makena Mwiti has worked globally and more specifically in Sub-Saharan Africa and MENA to successfully innovate and implement international programmes covering: women’s entrepreneurship, agribusiness, access to finance and non-financial services, small business development, credit information sharing, working with governments, corporates and directly with entrepreneurs.
Makena leverages her skill in managing and supporting governments, private sector and civil society organisations to build capacity and integrate gender at both the institutional and programme levels. She achieves this through developing gender responsive programming and applying gender analysis across a project’s cycle to inform project design, implementation and monitoring. Building on a passion for working with entrepreneurs, Makena’s expansive portfolio includes: developing a number of courses for entrepreneurs, developing programmes with commercial banks that allow micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to access financial capital, skills, markets, professional networks and sound financial infrastructures.

Caroline Mwazi
Caroline is the Lead, Online and Entrepreneurship Training
She is a specialist in Strategy Development and Implementation, Financial Management, Organizational and Enterprise Development, Client Relationship Management, Leadership and Personal Development.
She holds a Masters Degree in Business Administration from the University of the Free State (South Africa) with concentrations in Business Strategy and Entrepreneurship, as well as Diplomas in Client Relationship Management (Institute of Financial Services, UK) and Public Relations (Institute of Commercial Management, UK).
Caroline is an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers (UK), with over 16 years banking experience, including 8 years in management roles in the Corporate Banking Division of Barclays Bank of Kenya Limited, a subsidiary of Barclays Bank Plc.
She is a broad-thinking management consultant. Also a seasoned speaker and seminar leader, possessing certifications to run ILO (Expand your Business and Training of Women Entrepreneur Associations), World Bank (How do I become Bankable?) and IFC training programmes (SME Toolkit and Business EdgeTM).
Caroline is a member of the Kenya Institute of Bankers, the Institute of Financial Services (UK), the Kenya Institute of Management, and Kwanza Kenya Toastmasters’ Club, where she was the Vice – President for Public Relations (2009/2010).

Ken Kariuki
Ken Kariuki is the Lead, Brand Strategy at BSD Group.
He is the Managing Partner and Chief Strategist at a strategy consulting firm, Strategy Lab. He has over 20 years of Strategy Development, Brand Management & Commercial experience gained in multinational companies and local companies.
He has had extensive responsibility for sales, market share and profitability performance of major brands in Kenya and the East African markets.
He has been privileged to champion growth in some leading multinational companies: Nestle Foods (K) Ltd. in regional sales; Reckitt Benckiser Ltd. in marketing management; Kenya Breweries Ltd. in marketing management and sales operations management East African Breweries in Management of group projects related to Marketing, Commercial and business development.
Ken was at the forefront of several new product development concepts and launches at Reckitt & Colman (now Reckitt Benckiser) of major household products and extensions.
He was involved in a leadership team at the East African Breweries in carrying out due diligence of multiple beer companies in Ethiopia with a view to acquisition.
He was also centrally involved in breaking the volume trap at East African Breweries by working in a team that came up with ‘Senator Keg’, a hygienic and aspirational draught beer for consumers at the base of the pyramid – the success of this brand has been well documented.
Since 2006, Ken has used his wide experience in brand management, marketing and business strategy to help for-profits and nonprofits become more successful in their endeavours. Some of the organizations that he has worked with are – Safaricom, Acceler , Kijabe Hospital, Saham Insurance, Plan International, Eldoret Water and Sanitation Company, Magnate Ventures, Sameer Africa, Ketepa, Telkom, New KCC, ICT Authority, Unga Ltd, Bidco Land O’Lakes among others.
Ken’s strengths lie in insight generation and strategy conceptualization and development.
Ken holds a Bachelors of Arts (Management) degree and Master of Business Administration (Marketing Management) degrees.
He was the local champion of the Diageo Way of Brand Building Practitioners’ Course at Kenya Breweries Limited.
He has attended several local and international courses and assignments.
He is a member of the Marketing Society of Kenya (and has sat on the council for 2 years).
He is also involved in training of marketing and sales professionals locally and has previously been named ‘Trainer of the Year’ for the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM).

George Muruka
George is the Lead, Corporate Strategy (SACCOS) at BSD Group.
George Muruka is a development expert specializing in research, financial inclusion, livelihoods development, and Impact evaluations. He has 20 years of experience in East, West, and Southern African countries He has traveled widely in Africa, Asia, Europe, and the USA. He provides advisory services to NGOs, Banks, MFIs, SACCOs, and trains MSMEs operators. He provides consultancy services in research, product development, go-to-market strategy development, and project design and impact evaluations.
His work contributes to poverty alleviation and overall social-economic inclusion in developing countries. He has provided consultancy services to programs funded by the leading donors including the EU, DFID, The MasterCard Foundation, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, AGRA, CARE International UK, among others in at least 12 countries in Africa. He has professional experience in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Somalia, Benin, Ghana, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, and Zambia.
He has a master’s degree in International Development, Research, a degree in Community Development, and certifications in Project management, Training of Trainers, Statistical analysis, Process Innovations, Human-Centered Design, financial services, and products development and agricultural value chains finance and market systems approach.
